In first grade we do many many wonderful things to enhance reading, writing, and math skills. Be ready to watch your child shine throughout a wonderful year in first grade!
The students did a great job learning how to play together in the morning before school starts! Most have been choosing to play with legos each morning.
You will also see students engaged in books! We started our first Daily Five Literacy Center, Read-to-Self, this week! The students will work towards being able to comfortably read their stories for a solid 20 minutes. We started at just 3 minutes before taking a break. Just like exercise, it will take some time to build our reading stamina! We also discussed the 3 ways to read a book: Read the words, Read the pictures, and Retell the story! Stay posted on how many minutes we can Read to Self by the end of next week!
In the coming weeks the students will work towards the other 4 literacy centers: Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Word Work, and Work on Writing. It takes awhile to train our muscles to do all of the new classroom tasks but the students have agreed to accept the challenge of Daily Five and all the fun and learning it has to offer!
This morning I am currently putting away supplies and getting centers ready for the kiddos to use next week. I had to take a quick break to say THANK YOU! Wow, I am so humbled by all of the amazing work you put into helping me get my classroom ready. There are so many wonderful things the students get to use to help with their learning.
Thanks so much for coming in last night to say hello and drop things off. It was wonderful to see so many faces. I cannot wait to get this year started. ENJOY your Labor Day Weekend!
There will be MANY important forms coming home to you! Please get those back to me ASAP so I can get the office staff everything they need.
Also, check out REMIND! There is a sign up sheet coming your way on either Open House night (if you attend), or the first day of school. It is similar to CELLY messages, but the messages/reminders you get will be coming directly from me. As the school year gets going, it will be nice to send a message/reminder to each of you quickly and securely.
Let's get WILD for FIRST GRADE!
